Looks like the weekend is SHOT!
All thanks to a storm called Charlie. That's right folks- He's headed this way. According to NOAA and our local stations, he will hit the west coast, and head right up through central and northern Florida sometime in the next 3 to 5 days.
I have lived down here since 1977, and I understand that this is all part of the "bad" of life here. California has earthquakes, the North has it's wild winter storms, the mid-west- tornados. But I think that sometimes people forget about hurricanes. Not totally mind, but, from what I've experienced here, people don't pay attention until it's too late.
For the next few days, our store will be invaded by the "suddenly clued-in". Mad dashes made for water, batteries, canned goods, and all those supplies on the lists of necessities needed to survive the storm. People will fight, scream, and beat each other up for that last can of Tuna or bottle of water. What I ask is why?
Let me explain myself- I too will need these things. But the point is- I ALREADY HAVE THEM! when the season approches, I start to stock up. My pantry has enough canned goods to last us at least 5 days. I have bought the batteries when they have been on sale- checked all my flash lights and stocked up on lamp oil and charcoal for the grill. Water is easy if you think about it. My family drinks our soda out of 2-liter bottles. I save a dozen or so, when the storm is close, I fill them and Voila! Drinking water !( your supposed to clean and fill the bathtub for other water uses) Why do people who KNOW this could happen wait until it is "too late" to do this, and end up without what they need? I'm clueless, but I'm ready!
And if Charlie gets up to category 3- well- "I'm out of here, like I'm on fire"!!!
Peace all- KC
